Cross Country Skiing & Snowshoeing

Our area is the perfect spot to get out and cross country ski or snowshoe! Our numerous, unplowed logging roads or snow covered lakes are great spots to get out and enjoy a brisk winter’s day.

Need a more structured setting? Just 35 minutes away is the Balsams / Wilderness Ski Area. Regarded as "one of the top cross-country ski resorts in North America" by Snow Country Magazine®, The BALSAMS Grand Resort Hotel offers 95 kilometers of cross-country ski trails, 85 of which are tracked and groomed. With only a few exceptions, the trails are groomed 14 feet wide with two diagonal lanes and a wide skate lane down the middle. Proficient striders and skaters can ride the rolling terrain at race pace and never crowd out the less adventurous novice.

The trail system traverses the resort's 15,000-acre private estate featuring unforgettable views and unspoiled wilderness. Ski loops of varying length and difficulty have been developed within the cross-country trail system. A state-of-the-art topographical Trail Map and Guide clearly and accurately displays the entire system, with helpful hints and interesting explanations along the way. 

In addition to cross country skiing, The BALSAMS Wilderness has developed annotated trails specifically designed for snowshoers, with now more than 30 km of marked trails for snowshoers only.
