Winter Tips and Advice

Visiting Pittsburg for the first time? Here’s some tips and advice to make your trip a great one!

Currently we have no cell phone service in Pittsburg. Service can be had in Colebrook to our south and just over the border into Canada ($1 per minute). We have pay phones and suggest a pre paid phone card for your telephone needs

Wireless internet can be found at numerous lodging establishments. Inquire at your favorite place to stay.

Route 3, the main road through Pittsburg is well cared for by the State of NH. Travel during snowstorms should only be done with proper winter tires and at slow speeds when travel is a must. Our road crew in NH does a fantastic job keeping the roads clear and safe.

Plan to travel in Canada? We recommend bringing a passport or at the very least a birth certificate. The law regarding this is still unsettled but better safe than sorry. Also a rabies certificate for your pet is required for your pet visit Canada.

We have two 24 hour gas stations in Pittsburg. No need to wonder where to get gas late at night. These gas stations are accessible by snowmobile too! (Credit Card sales only)

Using MapQuest for directions to get here? Do not, and I repeat, do not take 145 from Colebrook to Pittsburg in the winter unless it is a bright sunny day and you do not mind frost heaves! Since this is the ‘shortest’ route, MapQuest recommends it. Just stay on Rte 3 and you will arrive less jostled than if you take 145.

Snowmobile rules are followed in Pittsburg. It is illegal to ride on town or state roads and this is strictly enforced. Know the rules before you ride. For a rule book, inquire where you register your snowmobile or click here.

Have a great, safe visit to our area!
