Touring the Great North Woods on motorcycle? How fun! Route 145 from Colebrook to Pittsburg is a winding, up and down scenic adventure. For a US / Canada ride, leave from Pittsburg and head north to the Canadian border. As you cross the border there will be a turnout on your right. This is a great photo opportunity. Continue in Canada to La Patrie (second small town) and take a right and follow to Woburn, Quebec (20 minute) then take another right and cross back into the US at Colburn Gore, Maine. This is a great drive down through the ‘Chain of Lakes’ to Eustis and then Rangeley Maine. Travel toward Oquassit and then to Errol NH. Take Rte 26 to Colebrook. You will pass through Dixville Notch, very nice! Then another right in Colebrook puts you back on Rte 3 north to Pittsburg. Round trip? 4 hours. Another great bike ride leaves from Pittburg on Rte 3 South, passes the Shrine of our Lady Grace where the annual blessing of the bikes occurs every year just south of Colebrook NH. Continue to Rte 110 in Groveton NH. Follow the Ammonusuc River and then turn onto Rte 110 A in Milan. Go under the old stone railroad bridge and continue to 110 B and go over Milan Hill. At Rte 16 take a left and travel north on Rte 16 following the Androscoggin River to Errol NH. Now take Rte 26 throuhg Dixville Notch to Colebrook where you can take Rte 3 to 145 north to Pittsburg! Round trip - 4 hours. |
